Meet The Author

Hi! I’m Ashlie Monroe- a mother, wife, teacher, and storyteller.
I was born and raised in Idaho and still call it home today. After high school, I started college as a radiology major, but something inside me kept saying that it wasn’t the right path. After some soul-searching, I switched to elementary education. The moment I stepped into a classroom for my first field experience, I knew I had found where I was meant to be. I graduated from Boise State University in 2017 and have been teaching elementary school ever since.

My husband and I met as kids at our local motocross track, and now we’re raising our daughters with the same love for adventure.

My dream is to continue writing stories that find their way into homes, classrooms, and the hearts of families everywhere. Thank you for being part of my journey (even if you’re just visiting my website). I’m so grateful you are here 💛

My Writing Journey

Growing up, I was always drawn to writing and poetry. Before the days of tech and screens, I would pass the time by making up stories and jotting them down just for fun. In high school, I took a Newspaper & Journalism class and ended up sticking with it all four years, eventually becoming an editor.

Writing a children's book had always been a dream of mine, but for a long time, doubt and lack of inspiration kept it tucked away. Then, during my oldest daughter’s toddler years, inspiration struck during our bedtime routine (two books and snuggles). After plenty of research and trial and error, Bedtime Memories was born.

When my second daughter was born, I knew I couldn’t stop at just one book (you can’t write for one child and not the other 😅). Waiting for You unfolded naturally, with its fair share of bumps and detours, and has since become an award-winning title.

And finally, Sheep’s Big Song. After years of teaching, I saw how many students (myself included) struggled with anxiety. I wanted to create a story kids could truly enjoy, while also giving them a gentle reminder about facing fears and self-doubt. Since I hadn’t seen many picture books featuring a sheep, that’s the character I chose- and before long, Sheep was singing his song fiercely.

These books wouldn’t be what they are without my amazing illustrator, Danica. Her very first free character sketch (based on a photo I sent of my daughter) is what hooked me, I knew right then she was the one. Since then, she’s illustrated all three of my books, and I couldn’t be more thankful for her talent, creativity, and above all, her patience.

One day, I hope I’ll be able to illustrate one of my books… one day. 💛
